Momentum Issue 41: Consume caffeine before exercise
Consuming a cup of coffee before exercise has consistently been shown to improve our fat-burning capacity during the workout.
Importance
While burning fat is generally more important for aesthetic purposes rather than health, keeping fat levels to a minimum has many health implications.
From obesity to stroke, excess body fat can wreak havoc on the body. This simple practice may help you increase the fat-burning efficiency of your workout.
And drinking coffee in itself has myriad health and longevity benefits:
Improved exercise performance (increased time to exhaustion, muscle strength, and sprint power)
Lowered risk of death from any cause:
“0.5 to 3 cups of coffee per day was independently associated with lower risks of stroke, death from cardiovascular disease, and death from any cause." - Science Daily
Implementation
There are two ways to implement this practice: in the morning or in the afternoon.
Morning
Drink a cup of black coffee (or caffeinated tea) before ingesting any calories (which means no milk, creamers, or sweeteners in your coffee)
Do some form of exercise. It doesn’t have to be strenuous, just something that will raise your heart rate and get your blood flowing. Since you’re in a fasted state which is already stressful on the body, you don’t want to add too much fuel to the fire.
Recommended activities include: Walking, jogging, yoga, light cycling, swimming.
Afternoon
Consume coffee 30 minutes before your afternoon workout - the recent research has looked at aerobic exercise such as running, biking, and swimming. However, it is likely to have benefits during any form of exercise
Before You Go
I have created a quick survey to help me get to know you better.
I am in the process of creating some things for the Momentum community and want to have a better understanding of who you are and what your goals are.
It would help me a lot if you could fill out this anonymous questionnaire.
Thank you!
P.S. For those of you who filled out a similar survey a few months ago, this is a brand new one as the Momentum community has grown a lot since then, so I would like to collect fresh data. It would be incredibly helpful if you could fill it out again.
